To us, breeding is not so much about quantity as it is about quality.   You may have to wait a little while longer for a litter than you would at some other breeders, but our puppies are worth the wait.  We take the time to get to know our dogs so we can look for the appropriate mate for him/her.  Only the finest temperaments are considered.  Hip and Eye Certifications must be obtained, and the overall health of both the male and the female must be cleared.  Sleepless nights might be in the future for our live-in staff before, during, and, even after, whelping occurs to ensure the health and comfort of mother and pups.  The breeding process does not end after birth!  The pups must be monitored to gauge proper development, both physically and temperamentally.  Pups must be exposed to various sights, sounds, and environments at the right times.  As the puppies grow and become more active, personalities begin to develop.  The litter must be under constant observation to maintain an "evenness" to avoid small pups being bullied, or discourage stronger pups from becoming too "powerful."  Clearly, breeding is not simply a matter of mating two dogs.   We believe that the more work we do as breeders, the more prepared our pups will be for life outside of the nursery.

Currently our breeding program is focused on German Shepherds and Golden Retrievers.   We have well over 30 years of experience with these breeds.  Our Golden Retrievers are amiable and very easy to live with and train.  If you are looking for a good family dog, a TM's Golden Retriever is the answer.  Our German Shepherds deserve a bit more discussion.  Unbeknownst to many, there is a huge difference in German Shepherds from one breeder to the next.  There are very strong "German" working lines out there that produce extremely intelligent, gorgeous specimens of the breed.  These dogs exhibit a very high working "drive" that can be difficult to rein in.  In the hands of a strong individual dedicated to working this dog's mind, as well as his body, this type of German Shepherd can be a great companion.  However, in our many years of experience, we have found that this type of dog can be overwhelming to many individuals, and especially families with young children.   Our German Shepherds are from American, Canadian, and muted German lines.   What this means is that, though our Shepherds hold true to the conformation, intelligence, and overall temperament of the traditional German Shepherd, they are a bit "softer."  They are still great protectors of the home and family, but do not have to be "on the job" at all times in order to be content.  For the family juggling many daily activities and responsibilities, this softer temperament can fit it much more successfully.  At TM's Kennel we do not overbreed our dogs.  A typical female may have one to three litters before "retirement."  As a result, we do often have adult dogs available for adoption.  These adults are still young enough to enjoy a full and happy life with a loving family.  Nothing pleases us more than to see a dog we have raised go on to be a spoiled family pet.  It's just as fulfilling as placing an eight-week-old puppy into a new home.  If you are looking for an older pet, check in with us periodically.  You may be lucky enough to spoil one of these great dogs!
