Chris, the owner of TM's Kennel, still performs the daily chores in one of
the smaller kennels on the grounds. This kennel originally housed our Mini Poodles
back when we still bred them. Over the years, as our Poodles have aged and passed
away, Chris has invited some of our smaller boarders who are older, more nervous, or just
have called out to her in one way or another, to stay in this kennel. Though all
dogs at TM's Kennel are treated like family, these lucky little dogs become an extension
of Chris' own dog family receiving her own kind of special care. She enjoys getting
to know these older, or more nervous, little ones and helping them feel as comfortable as
possible when away from their own families. Recently, Chris "adopted" an
older Mini Poodle named "Cassie" who was left behind when her owner passed away.
The woman's son boarded "Cassie" with us while he was closing up his
mother's affairs. He was torn that he would not be able to care for
"Cassie" himself, and knew that the chances of finding an adopter for an elderly
dog was close to impossible. Once Chris discovered this, she invited
"Cassie" to live out her life here alongside our last Mini Poodle,
"Ebony" whose companions had all passed away over the last couple of years.
Now "Ebony" has a new friend and "Cassie" has a safe,
comfortable place to live out her Golden Years! Everybody wins. (UPDATE: We are sad to announce the "Cassie"
succumbed to her age after a tumor removal and additional miscellaneous care. She
passed away silently in her sleep on February 8th. Goodbye,"Cassie."
We were all happy to have shared this last year with you. UPDATE: Ebony has followed his Poodle companions to Rainbow Bridge.
Ebony lived a very long and active life here with us. Unfortunately, he
succumbed to a myriad of age-related disabilities on May 7th. Ebony, you were such a
great presence here for your entire life, you will be greatly missed.)
After the back-to-back losses of "Ebony" and "Cassie,"
Chris's Corner felt empty. That is, until "Tiny" joined us.
"Tiny's" owner, unfortunately, had to move into a new home that did not allow
dogs. One of our employees is a friend of "Tiny's" owner and asked Chris
if she would be willing to take "Tiny" in. "Tiny" came to us
grossly overweight despite her prior owner's efforts to control the weight gain.
Her weight was making it very hard for "Tiny" to move comfortably and was
putting excessive strain on her thin Italian Greyhound legs to the point where her front
legs were almost compressed and significantly bowed out. After a thorough exam by
Dr. Mikkola, it was determined that "Tiny" needed a good dental cleaning and
some teeth removed and had to go on medication to regulate her thyroid. So far,
things are going well for "Tiny" here in Chris's Corner. She continues to
lose weight and become more active and social. Check out her progres on her page!
Below are some pics of Chris' "pet" boarders:

| "Thumper"a very old Doxie on his
specially made ramp which makes getting in and out of the kennel easier on his creaky
joints. |
Rusty has been boarding with us for years, and
naturally has aged. He is picky about his eating and "wanders" a bit when
out in his run area. Chris always makes sure Rusty eats and monitors the amount of
time he spends in his run, making sure he comes in to rest during the day. |

| Tristan (left) and Palani (right with
Casey), board in Chris' Corner, too! Tristan needs special care for his back so
Chris keeps him close by her. Palani is Tristan's "brother" and has to be
near Tristan to keep him company. As you can see, Palani is your typical high-drive
Doxie! Look at that focus! If he could leap out of Casey's arms, he surely
would! |

| Jesse is a Jack Russell Terrier that
came to us about two years ago with a special care issue. Jesse is blind.
Jesse's "mom" had to board him but had not found any place that she felt could
give him the proper care by providing him with a safe enclosure and monitor him closely
enough. As it happens, if you did not know Jesse, you would not even know he is
blind. Once he learns how to maneuver through his area, he's very steady and
confident. When Jesse first boarded with us, we "showed" him where his
water was, where his door was, and walked him through his run. From that point on,
all we had to do is put him in the same pen/run each time he came in and he was perfectly
comfortable. Sadly, Jesse's "mom" moved to the West Coast, so we will not
have the pleasure of caring for this wonderful guy anymore. We will miss him and
wish them both the best! |

| Gretchen is a big girl who has boarded
with us all her life. She's aging now, and having a more difficult time getting up
and getting around. Christine wanted to keep Gretchen close to her during a recent
stay, so we converted one of our whelping rooms into a personal suite for Gretch!
Above left, Gretchen is peaking over her gate to say "Hello." Above right,
Gretchen decides to take a break on her walk and enjoy the sun and the soft grass. UPDATE: Sadly, Gretchen pass away in early April 2007. We will miss
her terribly, but are happy to have had the opportunity to have known her and taken care
of her well into her elder years. |

| After a long absence from us, Demon came back
recently to board with once again. However, he had aged considerably, so Chris took
him down to her kennel. He needed some extra help getting up and getting around.
Additionally, he would get "lost" out in his run, so we brought him into
the same whelping room we used for Gretchen (above). Having the extra space, Demon
was very comfortable in his "room" and enjoyed going out for his walks on the
grass behind the kennel. |
Lily came to us a couple of years ago as an older,
though very active, girl. Recently, Chris decided that Lily was having a hard time
calming herself down when in the general population of younger dogs, so decided to bring
her down to her smaller kennel. Lily's a talkative girl, and she's still very
active, but she does rest her weary bones a bit more when housed with Chris' handpicked
crew!. |

|
| Though Chris likes to keep the older
dogs close by her to be sure they are comfortable, well fed, and safe, she also enjoys
pulling in some respectful youngsters. Doxies, like Max (above) are ALWAYS welcome,
but any cute little one may who may seem overwhelmed by the boarding experience, may
be welcomed into Chris' Corner. Moxie is just such a little girl! Moxie is a
Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppy who was very nervous on the day she was dropped off,
so Chris took her in and introduced her to Max (who was also suffering from the
"first time boarder blues"). As you can see, these two didn't suffer long
as once they were introduced, they played like they'd known each other forever!
Several times a day, Chris would let these two little ones run around with each
other. Oh, the fun they had! They probably can't wait to come back and see
each other again! |

| "Joilee" is a long time boarder here at
TM's. As she has aged, and experienced changes in her health, she has come to join
Chris in her little Corner of the world. Here, "Joilee" enjoys some time
sitting up high on the couch while several of her fellow boarders play on the floor below
her. Living the life of a true Queen! Check out that grin! |
"Pancho" is a first-time boarder whose
owner was very concerned to leave him for three weeks while she visited family out of the
country. He's a little guy and she was very concerned that he would somehow escape.
Once Chris saw him, he was hers for those few weeks that he stayed at TM's!
"Pancho" did not escape, nor did he try. He enjoyed his stay so much that
by the time he left, we almost had to name the building after him -- he reigned over his
fellow boarders! "Pancho" made sure that he took the biggest bone he could
find (far bigger than him!) into his pen with him for "safekeeping." What this
little guy lacked in size, he made up for in pure personality! |

|
| Katie is a Toy Poodle that has boarded in Chris's Corner
for several years now. She was chosen by Chris for several reasons: 1.
She's a Poodle. 2. She is easily "overwhelmed" by noise. and
3. She's CUTE! Katie is so easy to care for and really seems to enjoy the calm
and quiet of Chris' Corner. |
"Bilbo" is a Terrier puppy that began boarding in
Chris' Corner because his older brother "Snowy" boarded here.
"Snowy" was a very old Maltese who needed the quiet and easy access afforded by
the location of Chris' Corner on the grounds. "Snowy" recently passed
away, and this pic was taken during "Bilbo's" first time boarding without
"Snowy." Though we are sure he misses "Snowy," he seems
perfectly happy with his new companion, "Monkey." |
