| Our
Board & Train option is for the individual who either cannot commit to a traditional
weekly group schedule, or owns a dog that has not responded well to group training.
Additionally, many of our clients are young puppy owners who simply want their new
addition to learn the basics quickly before bad habits can set in. We believe that
over the years, we have designed the most complete Companion Obedience Program with Board
& Train as the base and additional Group, Private, and Refresher work to bolster the
progress of the dog and his handler. Through a series of graduated levels, we can
teach your dog basic on-leash manners to more reliable off-leash behaviors, as well as
teach you how to understand and "read" your dog accurately. Your dog will
stay with us for two weeks in our kennels and receive daily lessons in private instruction
with our qualified trainers. Before and after his training, we will work with you to
teach you, as well. When
you enroll your dog into our Board & Train Program, we will meet with you for a 30
minute Orientation. In this Orientation, we will spend some time getting to
know you and your dog so that we can structure your dog's obedience to fit your
needs. We will also teach you some of the basic hand signals and techniques.
You will leave with some preliminary training and some helpful ideas on how to structure
your dog's environment to achieve behavioral success. To prepare you for your
Private Lesson, we will also provide you with some "homework" to read over while
your dog is in training. Once your dog has completed his two weeks in training, we
will work with you in a one-hour private "hands on" lesson. Then,
approximately two weeks after your Private Lesson, we will meet with you again in a small
group setting. Further private, or group, instruction is also available.
Why Board and Train?
- Your dog is trained by a qualified
professional who analyzes your dog's behavior and reacts quickly and accordingly for the
most effective results.
- Your dog receives private instruction
and is introduced to "distraction" only when he is ready. We will work at
your dog's pace in order to ensure his success.
- Boarding your dog helps to build
confidence in his ability to "survive" away from his pack and respond to the
care of strangers. This is particularly important for dogs that tend to be shy,
fearful, or suffer light to moderate separation anxiety.
- Boarding and training is a valuable
experience for any puppy that is starting to get "out of control". Puppies
grow and gain incredible strength very quickly, which may leave you, the human companion,
at a loss as to how to discipline your beloved friend without feeling guilty.
Training your dog away from home gives him a fresh start and you the opportunity needed to
gain perspective on what the house rules will be when your friend returns home.
